Ingalls wins modernization contract for USS John L. Hall

December 15, 1998 — Ingalls Shipbuilding division of Litton Industries (NYSE: LIT) has been awarded a $6.4 million contract by the U.S. Navy to perform significant modernization work onboard the guided missile frigate, USS JOHN L. HALL (FFG 32), which is homeported at Naval Station Pascagoula.

The Docking Selected Restricted Availability (DSRA) work on FFG 32, commissioned in 1982, will be accomplished at Ingalls, and is similar to work performed by Ingalls in recent months aboard the Aegis cruisers USS YORKTOWN (CG 48) and USS THOMAS GATES (CG 51). The work on this contract involves several major tasks, including environmental upgrades, habitability area updates, and auxiliary and cooling system upgrades. Work will also be performed on the ship’s underwater hull, in Ingalls’ floating drydock.

"After successfully completing recent similar work on the two cruisers, Ingalls brings a unique and valuable understanding of the scope of work to be performed under this contract," said Ingalls President Jerry St. Pe’. "Contracts of this nature are important to our overall business strategy," St. Pe’ added. "In addition to their business value, they help retain valuable technical and skilled employees."

The FFG 32 work will begin on January 11, and is scheduled to be complete in early April. The project will involve about 300 Ingalls employees.
